Police were out in full force again tonight at ASU and Hugh Mills stadium after the death of a gang leader lead to threats of possible gang retaliation.

Southside Bloods leader, Dontavious Luke, was laid to rest today after he was gunned down by rival gang last Sunday. City officials worried the big crowds would be an easy target for another attack.

"The type of behavior that we don't want at any of our events won't be tolerated. Measures will be taken," says John Proctor with Albany Police.

Albany Police, as well as deputies from Tift County, were positioned throughout Hugh Mills Stadium and things seemed to be pretty quite for the Westover versus Tift County game.

Across town, the same thing could be said about ASU's first big game at the Coliseum.

"We haven't had any problems, any threats, any gang activity on this campus, this is a safe campus," says ASU Police Chief John Fields.

And that makes students at ASU feel safe for their first game of the season.

"Because of ASUP, APD, and the presence that we have out here, everything is fine now, I mean, I don't feel threatened or insecure because of the presence of here," says ASU Junior, Jonathan Simmons.

And students aren't alone. 42 year ASU employee Wilburn Campbell says there's no threat on their campus.

"It's unfortunate that we're having shootings, that we just have a couple of people out there doing that type of thing to give the city a bad rep but I want to welcome everyone to Albany State University and the bottom line is that ASU is one of the safest campuses in the whole university system and were proud of that," says Campbell.

And ASU police says they're ready if anything were to happen.

"We want people to know that they are safe if they want to come out to the football game tonight and you know if we have any issues, we've got police officers all over the campus to deal with any incidents," says ASU Police.

Police say the shootings from last weekend are still under investigation and anyone with information about possible gang activity is urge to call crime stoppers at 436-TIPS.
