MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

A homicide investigation is underway in Moultrie where a man was found dead early Saturday morning. The body was found lying in the parking lot near a park and investigators suspect foul play.

Spots of blood still remain on the concrete near a Moultrie park where police an say an unidentified man was found dead Saturday morning. A jogger made the discovery around 5:30 and called police.

"A guy who normally exercised in the morning walked by and found the body in the parking lot," says Investigator Freddie Williams, Moultrie Police Department.

Officers arrived at the scene at the corner of NW 1st Street and NW 2nd Avenue.

"Officers did find a body in the parking lot and checked his vitals, an he was deceased," says Williams.

Williams says he is surprised the body was found in this public location because it is a recreational spot.

"That area there, normally is where older gentlemen hang out and play checkers, just a very common social spot," says Williams.

Investigators do not know how he died, his body was clear of any gun shot or stab wounds. But the death is still suspicious. The GBI was called in to investigate and are treating the death as a homicide.

Detectives don't have a suspect or a motive at this time. Right now all we know is the body is that a black man who is in fifties, but his name has not been released.

An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death. It is scheduled for this Tuesday.
