Authorities hold news conference to address gang fears

Leaders from Albany and Dougherty Co. law enforcement and the D. A. 's office held a news conference today at the Law Enforcement Center to address fears of gang violence after a gang leader was shot and killed last week.

Albany Police Chief John Proctor says that law enforcement is "In sync, and on high alert, and will do everything possible to keep the community safe and protect the citizens."

Albany Police Chief John Proctor, Dougherty Co. School Superintendent Dr. Joshua Murfree, D. A. Greg Edwards, DCSS Police Chief Troy Conley, and Dougherty Co. Sheriff Kevin Sproul, and ASU Police Chief John Fields were on hand.

Representatives from Tift County, Westover's football opponent Saturday night were on hand for the conference.

Tift Co. Superintendent Patrick Atwater said that he was satisfied with the precautions being taken for the game at Mills Stadium.

ASU Chief Fields said that security will be high for the ASU game Saturday afternoon.
