City of Lakeland settles with former Police Chiefs

LAKELAND, GA (WALB) -

The City of Lakeland is paying a quarter of a million dollars to two former Police Chiefs who were fired.

Former Police Chiefs Robbie Grantham and Kevin Trollinger said they were fired from the Lakeland Police Department when they refused to target and arrest the political opponents of the Mayor Bill Darsey. The Police Chief's lawyer says this settlement speaks for itself.

"This has had a tremendous affect on their professional careers and personal lives and they're ready to move on, and they feel somewhat vindicated by the fact of this large settlement," said Attorney Trent Coggins.

Bill Darsey is still the Mayor of Lakeland today. Coggins says this settlement is the largest negotiated settlement in a whistleblower action filed against a Georgia municipality.
