THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Five Thomas County High School students hope to bring home a national championship, but not in a traditional sport.

Through the school's Automotive Education Vocational Program, these students compete in Hot Rodders of Tomorrow competitions across the country.

They're timed as they disassemble, then reassemble, a V8 high performance engine. Currently, they're ranked 2nd in the world.

"We've already has some race teams look at them. So the sky is the limit for these guys. You gotta figure, being the 2nd fastest team, five of the ten fastest in the world. So very elite group that I have here at the school," said Automotive Instructor Mason Miller.

The team heads to Las Vegas October 31st for the National Championship.
