A former Dougherty County Jailer has now been released on bond, following his indictment and arrest for racketeering, stealing more than $11,000 in student loan money.
47-year-old Henry Akumengalame has been indicted on seven counts of theft by taking, forgery, and violations of Georgia's racketeering act.
A jailer at the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office from 2004 through 2010, prosecutors charge Akumengalame stole money from Georgia Perimeter College and Suntrust Bank in July and August 2010 by forging student loan applications.
