WG&L Commissioners plan to make their case at the city commission meeting next Tuesday about the old gas manufacturing site on West Society Avenue.

The board members discussed the possible routes to take too continue to comply with EPA guidelines. Recently the Long Term Financial Planning Committee denied their request for $750,000 to clean up the property.

Commissioner Bob Hutchinson told the board they should try again, but this time be more prepared. The city owns the building, and WG&L board members think the clean up cost should be shared.

If no agreement is made, the possible cost of cleanup could be passed on to customers.

"We'll probably have to work that $1 million price tag in our budget. Yes it would be passed on to customers if it's worked into the budget," said Fiscal Affairs Director John Vansant, III.

"Somebody is going to have too pay for the cleanup. What I'm hoping is that the clean up cost are at the lowest level as opposed to the highest," said Mayor Dorothy Hubbard.

WG&L will make their case before the City Commission on Tuesday.  Then WG&L commissioners will have to go back to the Long Term Financial Planning committee for their recommendation.

The City Commission will have the last say on whether they will help share the costs of the cleanup with WG&L.
