An Albany Housing Authority plan to revitalize a central Albany neighborhood gets a stamp of approval from city leaders.  Commissioners approved a resolution of support for the plan to transform McIntosh Homes into a thriving mixed income community called "The Oaks at North Intown".

A lawsuit settlement was approved Wednesday night for $250,000 to end complaints by two former police chiefs against the City of Lakeland, GA.

The chiefs contended that they were fired from their positions because they would not use their authority to arrest Mayor Bill Darsey's political opponents.

Here is a press release from TLC law:

Two former City of Lakeland Police Chiefs have settled their lawsuit against the City of Lakeland, Mayor Bill Darsey and four Council members.

Robbie Grantham and Kevin Trollinger alleged that they were fired when they refused to target and arrest the political opponents of Mayor Darsey.

The quarter million dollar settlement was approved by the City Council in a 4 to 1 vote during a special session Wednesday evening.

Valdosta Attorney Trent Coggins said the former chiefs felt vindicated by the settlement and were pleased that the long fought victory was over.

According to Coggins, this settlement represents the largest reported, negotiated settlement in a Whistleblower action against a Georgia municipality.
