Red Cross volunteers still on standby

Posted: Updated:

Southwest Georgia Red Cross volunteers are still on standby to help out in those shelters.

30 volunteers from the Flint River Chapter are waiting for damage assessments before learning if they'll be called to action.

So far, 2,700 Red Cross volunteers are in the Gulf region now helping victims.

"That's what the Red Cross does. We help people with immediate relief in the times of disaster. What we're going to do is go there and help those people make the clean up easier and make them more comfortable," said Red Cross Flint River Chapter Executive Director Lara Gill.

Red Cross officials say they need more volunteers and donations to continue to serve hurricane victims.
