Dougherty Co. judges want no part in Heard lawsuit

Posted: Updated:

Dougherty County's three Superior Court judges want no part of a lawsuit filed in a school board race.

Judges Willie Lockette, Denise Marshall and Steve Goss recused themselves Wednesday from hearing the lawsuit filed by Lorenzo Heard.

Heard wants a court to order his name be on the ballot in November for an at large school board seat.

His lawyer isn't surprised the judges stepped aside.

"I've done a lot of election cases and in most of the cases, more than 95 percent the judges in the circuit generally recuse themselves," said Maurice King, Lorenzo Heard's Attorney.

A judge from somewhere else will be appointed to hear the case.
