Valdosta Red Cross will send disaster volunteers

Posted: Updated:
VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Some Red Cross Volunteers in Valdosta will head out tomorrow to help victims of Hurricane Isaac.

The South Georgia chapter of the Red Cross in Valdosta is on alert.

A handful of volunteers got word today that they're being called into service.

"They are your average citizen, and that's usually who volunteers, they take time out of their busy schedule and out of their lives; away from their families. And the volunteers, as a lot of people know as a non-profit, they are the heart and soul of a non-profit organization," said Terri Jenkins, Director of the Red Cross, South Georgia Chapter.

Red Cross Officials say more volunteers may be going if they can rearrange their personal schedules. The volunteers will leave tomorrow or Friday. If you'd like to volunteer for future disasters, go to www.valdostaredcross.org to find out how to register for disaster training.
