Former ASU student pleads guilty to changing grades

Posted: Updated:

Former Albany State student Derrick Davis plead guilty to four counts of Computer Trespass.

Albany State has changed its procedures after a student was caught illegally changing his grades.

In a story we broke in a WALB News 10 alert Wednesday morning, Derrick Davis pleaded guilty to inflating his grades in four classes back in December 2010.

At the time, he was a student and part-time employee in the Information Technology Department.

Davis discovered vulnerability in the instructor password routine and was able to get access to his grades.

"Since that time Albany State has implemented additional security measures to maintain the integrity of the grading system," said Vickie Oldham, ASU Assistant VP of Institutional Advancement.

ASU won't tell us what changes they made to their system.

Officials say this is an isolated incident and that they notified authorities in April, 2011 when the grade irregularities were first reported.

Monday, Davis was sentenced to 24 months probation and ordered to pay a $2,000 dollar fine.  He has already been expelled from ASU.
