Two months into the new budget year, the city of Albany's budget to tear down dilapidated buildings is disappearing fast.

Tuesday night, city commissioners approved an additional $150,000 in demolition funding for this fiscal year.

The budget included $150,000 for demolition projects, but city leaders say that's not enough. "We know with the houses that we have already prepared to demolish, we're going to spend the bulk of that $150,000. Plus we have another set of houses that are going through the court system as we speak, so it became apparent that we need to have additional funds to work through this fiscal year," said Assistant City Manager Wes Smith.

Earlier this year, one of Albany's biggest eyesores, the old Heritage House Hotel, was torn down.

City officials say tearing down dilapidated property is a high priority.
