Prosecutors admit violent retaliation is possible after a deadly gang shooting over the weekend.
Three people were arrested Tuesday as we learned the man who was killed Sunday at the Shackleford Shopping Center, 24-year-old Dontavious Luke, was the leader of the Southside Bloods.
Homicide detectives are working alongside APD's Gang Unit in gathering witnesses and suspects.
"The case is progressing very well," said APD Media Manager Phyllis Banks.
Police arrested Kelvin Drake, Manessah Skinner, and Keith Roberson on firearms, aggravated assault and street gang terrorism charges.
But the triggerman who shot and killed Dontavious Luke is still at large.
"Both units are aggressively searching for any individuals that may have witnessed anything that particular night. Now is not the time to be silent," said Banks.
Four other people, including Luke's brother, were injured in what prosecutors say is gang warfare.
"The gangs that have been identified are the Rattler's gang and the Blood gang members," said District Attorney Greg Edwards.
He says the victim's suspected involvement with the Westside Rattlers rose all the way to the top. What he fears now is retaliation.
"The gang seeking to retaliate usually tries to up gun or upgrade their weapons. In that regard, they try to get assault type weapons and those assault type weapons are very bad for the community," Edwards said.
Just over a year ago an APD officer was shot at and his cruiser damaged by gunfire from suspected gang members.
Edwards says there are an estimate 600 known gang members in Dougherty County. He says these situations of street warfare put the community at risk.
"Innocent people get hurt when gang members try to beef out their situations. What we need you to do is to help yourself and the community by letting police know about anything they may find out about," he said.
Police do know numerous witnesses saw what happened. Edwards says police are reviewing surveillance video from the scene of the shooting.
