Hands Across the Border campaign in full swing

Posted: Updated:
EARLY COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Law enforcers were out Monday night looking for drunk drivers.

They'll continue their crackdown through Labor Day.

Officers from Georgia and Alabama met at the state line Monday night for their annual Hands Across the Border traffic enforcement effort.

Georgia State Troopers then joined Early County deputies and officers from other agencies in the Southwestern Traffic Enforcement Network for this safety checkpoint on Highway 84.

"We're out here looking for drunks to keep everyone safe out here on the roads. We're also looking for child restraints to ensure all children are transported safely. We're also out here to remind everybody of the bad weather that's coming through to be extra careful while you're on the road, especially when it starts raining and the roads get wet," said Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Davis Fretwell

The 21st annual Hands Across the Border campaign is organized by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

It kicked off Sunday and will include sobriety checkpoints in communities near all five of our neighboring states.
