Troops evacuating the coast because of Isaac are now in Albany.
The first of nearly 5,000 Marines and Sailors from the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida arrived at the Marine Corps Logistics Base around 9:30 Monday evening.
The base will act as a temporary home for around 4,800 Marines and Sailors from the Naval Air Station.
Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to hit Mississippi and Louisiana the hardest but Pensacola will still get heavy wind and rain.
Base officials say they're glad they could be a safe haven for their fellow Marines.
We talked to one evacuee Monday evening about what disruptions the storm may cause.
"Certain classes are being set back a week and some classes aren't being interrupted by the inconvenience of the hurricane. I'm pretty sure we'll hit the ground running when we get back, said Naval Air Station Pensacola Airman Marcus Arevalo.
Hundreds of Marines from Pensacola were housed at MCLB Albany in 2004 and 2005 after storms threatened Florida.
The 4,800 displaced personnel will remain at MCLB Albany until the destructive weather passes and it is safe for them to return to their homes.
MCLB Albany was prepared to provide shelter to nearly 10,000 Marines from Paris Island, South Carolina during Hurricane Hannah in 2008, but they ended up not evacuating.
