THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Three Thomasville elementary schools were hand picked by Governor Deal's Office of Student Achievement to participate in a new program.

Harper, Scott, and Jerger Elementary Schools will have access to a state-funded reading instruction mentor.

This is part of Governor Deal's initiative to improve early literacy in Georgia.

"They will actually drive the professional development from the teachers into the classroom, teaching those skills for reading fluency and really enhancing what our teachers already have good reading teachers," said Thomasville Schools Superintendent Sabrina Everett.

The Thomasville schools are three of only 44 schools statewide who were chosen for the program.
