Law Enforcers from Turner and Irwin Counties arrested two men they think are responsible for a string of burglaries.
The driver lost control on a dirt road and wrecked. He jumped out of the wrecked car and ran.
Authorities searched the thick woods in Irwin County from the ground and from the air.
It all started in Turner County when Sheriff Andy Hester stopped a car they had been looking for.
"I made a traffic stop," said Turner County Sheriff Andy Hester. "I got out to talk to the driver. He would not get out and ended up in a pursuit up Bussey Road here and right into the edge of Irwin County."
He went to the end of Bussey Road which stops at a cul-de-sac in Irwin County, that is where he turned around.
"He started back this way," Hester said. "He went around the loop down there. He started back this way, lost control on the dirt road, and wrecked."
Along the way, he threw out a handgun. After he wrecked, he ran to the woods.
"It's a black male," said Sheriff Hester. "It looks like he may have been about 5'11 or 6 foot. He is about 240 pounds or somewhere in that range. I think he had shorts on and maybe a tan shirt."
"We got our bloodhound and Crisp County's bloodhound out here," said Sheriff Hester. "We have Georgia State Patrol aviation. Irwin County deputies are on the scene. We are trying to keep a perimeter up and see if these dogs can track him down."
Sheriff Hester says to pay attention, but be careful.
"Just keep an eye out," Hester said. "There are a lot more eyes out when the people in the community are looking. If people are going down the road and see somebody walking, call us and let us know. If they get through the perimeter, they can cover a lot of ground."
Sheriff Hester thinks they will have that man in custody by nightfall. He believes the suspect was still in the woods. He wanted to thank the residents in the area for helping authorities by bringing water and food during the search.
The area they searched is near Bussey Road and Waterloo Rebecca Road. It is about halfway between Ashburn and Irwinville.
