A special prosecutor says he's ready to move forward with the trial of a suspended Dougherty County School Board member in less than a month.

Velvet Riggins is charged with public record fraud, providing false information to obtain free school meals, and two counts of theft by taking.

Her trial is set to begin September 17th.

The District Attorney for the South Georgia Judicial District is handling the case.

Joe Mulholland says he wants to make sure justice is served.

"Our main for this outcome is to decide the guilt or innocence in the defendant and have the jurors and her peers here in Dougherty County decide the issue."

If convicted, Riggins won't be allowed back on the school board.
