THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - One south Georgia police department plans to promote school bus safety by strictly enforcing violations.

Next week, the Thomasville Police Department will step up patrols looking for stop arm violations.

All violators will get tickets.

The "Stop Means Stop" campaign was created by the State Board of Education.

"If you see that stop sign out, vehicles are to come to a complete stop, from both directions. No one is allowed to go passed that school bus until those students have been loaded or unloaded," said Thomasville Police Lt. Eric Hampton.

A stop arm violation could result in up to six penalty points added to your license, a fine, and an increase in car insurance premiums.
