Whitney Houston's fans can see her perform one last time this weekend. Houston co-executive produced the movie Sparkle along with Bishop TD Jakes and it hits theaters Friday.
Critics say this is her swan song, but for her true fans it's so much more. This movie is about a 60's girl group trying to get a music deal.
Houston plays a mother trying to keep her daughters from making the same bad choices she made.
This movie was tapped by many as the comeback for Whitney Houston. No one knew it would be her final role. It's her first time on the big screen in more than 10 years.
Houston finished the movie only three months before she died. Her body was found in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel the night before the Grammy's.
Houston plays a Christian mother, who has found peace, after dealing with her own demons. She tries to keep her daughters from falling to the ills of show business.
Jordin Sparks, who is the lead actress, talked with the Today show about the true meaning behind it all. "This movie, what better gift for her to leave for all of her fans and everybody than this amazing performance that she does," said Sparks.
Critics are giving their usual two cents about the movie. But for True fans this is their last chance to say goodbye. "From "The Bodyguard" to "Waiting to Exhale," Whitney has always had this core audience of African American women, and this is one way for those fans to pay their respects to her," Entertainment Weekly Editor Thom Geier.
One thing for certain, this talented star managed to put her trouble behind away and Sparkle one last time.
Check with your local movie theaters to find out what time Sparkle is showing.
