Strong storms hammer parts of South Georgia

WORTH CO., GA (WALB) -

Powerful summer thunderstorms rumbled through portions of South Georgia Thursday afternoon, leaving large hail and downed trees in their wake.

The day started off warm and humid and by the early afternoon large cumulus clouds filled the skies over Worth County.  Soon the skies opened up and numerous viewers in the Warwick area reported hail covering their yards around 6 p.m.  Numerous Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were issued by the National Weather Service.

Rainfall totals were over 5" in northern Worth County according to the Weather Service and Flood Warnings were issued for the county. 

The worst damage report was on Doles Road in Worth County where a viewer sent us a picture of a tree that had fallen on a house.
