ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Georgia Forestry Commission is working with fire departments to map wildfire danger areas across the state.

The Albany fire department finished their work requested by the Forestry Commission and reported nearly 100 spots in their woodland community wildfire hazard assessment.

The drought has increased wildfire danger.

Right now more than 70-wildfires are burning in 13-states.

The Georgia Forestry Commission hopes to reduce the danger in the Peach State.

"It's important to the community to identify areas where we have an urban, wildfire interface," said Albany Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Allen Cravey.  "Where you have a community or homes next to an area that could be subject to wildfires."

Firefighters in each county are being asked to assess possible wildfire danger spots to help the Forestry Commission map out a strategy in case of future problems.
