CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

A frightening armed robbery was caught on tape.

Shots were fired as a clerk at a Cordele grocery store fought back against two masked armed robbers.

Police need tips from the public to track down the two dangerous robbers and the store owner hopes a cash reward will help.

The two masked armed robbers hit the Yours Supermarket on East 5th Monday evening.

"2 unidentified subjects come into the store, one of them with a gun. The store employee tries to fight them off then shots were fired," said Det. Scott Farrow with Cordele Police.

Thankfully, the store clerk was not hurt.  The bullet only hit a box of candy.

"What happened is very dangerous. It could have been a lot worse. The employee can have been shot or killed," said Det. Farrow.

The owner of the store did not want to go on camera, but he told us he is offering a $500 reward for any information that leads to the arrest of these crooks.

He hopes surveillance video will help put them behind bars.

"The suspects are described as 2 black males, one of them taller and the other shorter. We don't know who they are at this time. We asking the community for any help they can give us in identifying these subjects," said Det. Farrow.

Police are asking store clerks who find themselves in this situation to use caution.

"We recommend to think of your own safety. It's always dangerous when you try to fight somebody with a gun. We recommend that you look out for yourself and do whatever you need to do to survive the situation, even if it means losing some money at the time. It's not worth a life," said Det. Farrow.

The store owner wants the public to take a good look at these crooks in hopes they won't do this to another business.

If you have any information that could help investigators, you're asked to call the Cordele Police Department at 276-2921.

If your tip leads to an arrest, you may receive that $500 reward.
