The Albany YMCA will receive a $2 million grant from the Department of Education. The funds will be used to create after-school and summer programs for students in Dougherty County.

The YMCA and Dougherty County School System will hold a press conference about the grant around 9am. The after-school program will serve at least 125 students.

The program starts in mid September and will be held at Magnolia Elementary School. The Department of Education awards the grants across the US.

The grants are usually given to rural and inner city schools. Students will receive tutoring which will help them meet state academic standards in reading, math and other subjects.

The main purpose of this grant is to provide educational activities for children during non-school hours.
