Syrupmakers moving forward with its youth

Posted: Updated:
CAIRO, GA (WALB) -

The Cairo Syrupmakers will have to rely on its youth to get them back to the state playoffs.  Not only has Cairo lost quarterback Steven Bench to Penn State but also the entire starting offensive line and running backs from last year's state semifinal team.

This year Donald Thomas will start at quarterback, Thomas played receiver and DB last year. The running back position will be by committee.  Defensively, Cairo also lost most if starters. Overall,  head coach Tom Fallow believes this year will be a continued work in progress.

Fallow said "With a group being so young. We're playing football, we're just not doing it the right way yet and that's something that takes time. It takes more than just practice, it takes reps and games. Until they really see it full speed they don't really believe what you're saying so we've got to pick those things up and its going to take games"

Syrupmakers open up at home against Thomasville on August 31st.
