Traffic was backed up in Leesburg Friday night as law enforcement agencies teamed up for a road block.

Cars were lined up on Highway 19 because of the safety check organized by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

Law enforcers from around south Georgia were out checking drivers' documents and looking for impaired drivers to keep the roads safe.

"Every agency in our jurisdiction will send somebody to help with the road checks," said Leesburg Police Chief Charles Moore. "We are just out here promoting public safety. We check for seat belts, car seats, make sure they got their license and the insurance is current."

The officers moved around to several locations in Leesburg and Lee County. Agencies team up for the safety checks once a month somewhere in the region.
