COLQUITT COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Prosecutors are trying to seize 350 acres of land in Colquitt County they say a Norman Park man used in an elaborate cock-fighting operation.

Cockfights took place down a long dirt road off Highway 256. The land owner, 57-year old Wallace Hurst, was one of 32 people arrested during a July 7 raid during a cockfight.

The Southern Circuit District Attorney's office filed a civil action notice this week to seize 356 acres of land, an ATV, weapons and $10,000 in cash.

Hurst faces gambling, RICO, and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. Officials say asset forfeiture is commonly used to take away property gained from gambling or illegal drug activity.

Inv. Lt. Shannon Hart, Colquitt Co. Sheriff's Office says, "Anytime you are doing illegal activities, cars, vehicles, land, your home, is subject to forfeiture on it."

The other 31 people arrested are charged with a misdemeanor count of party to the crime of cruelty to animals and are scheduled for trial on Monday.
