THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Not your average high speed chase, but a wild ride for south Georgia deputies who were after man driving a stolen truck, hauling a stolen pontoon boat.

Just after midnight Wednesday, 21-year old Justin Lee Smith stole a Ford F-250 pickup and a 24-foot pontoon boat from a home on East Jackson Street in Thomasville.

Thomas County deputies chased Smith more than 30 miles up 319 north into Colquitt County.

Deputies there threw out spike strips and brought the chase to an end.

"Just thank goodness the time of night it was. Very few cars were on the road. No one was injured and the suspect is in jail," said Captain Steve Jones.

Smith is charged with two counts of theft by taking motor vehicle, driving without a valid license, and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
