This year's Georgia sales tax-free holiday runs from now through midnight Saturday night.

This is the first time since 2009 that Georgia has held a sales tax holiday for back-to-school materials. The state stopped the eight-year tradition to save the estimated $12 million in lost revenue.

Governor Nathan Deal reinstated the tax holiday. A Department of Revenue spokesman said he did not know how much this tax holiday is expected to cost the state.

One concern this year is timing. This weekend falls after many school districts begin the school year.

Shoppers will get a sales tax break on clothes, some electronics and school supplies, as well as, storage devices, software, printers, shoes, athletic supplies and even diapers.
