CLIMAX, GA (WALB) -

It's one of those towns where, if you're a local, everybody knows your name. Now the town's name is getting national attention.

A website compiled a list of the most unfortunately-named towns in the U.S.

And Climax came in at number two.

Climax is a little town with a long history and an unusual name. 71-year old Decatur County Commissioner David "Butch" Mosley, Jr. says the meaning behind his hometown's name is simple. "Climax is the highest point above sea level between Savannah, Georgia and the Chattahoochee River."

But what was once a thriving railroad community, is now just a dot on the map between Thomasville and Bainbridge.

"When I was a little boy, it was a bustling little community with stores running down both sides of Broad Street. They're all gone now with the exception of two buildings," said Mosley.

Mosely says, with a population of only 280, Climax is a quiet and pleasant community.

But the genealogy website findmypast.com decided the name Climax was most unpleasant. Well technically 2nd most.

"My reaction was somewhat in disagreement. The name Climax has so many interpretations if you think about it," said Mosley.

But Mosley says with new forms of transportation and few job opportunities, the town will never be what it once was. "Realistically I don't think that will ever happen. I think it is what it is. And it's going to be a small community. A great place to raise children. A great place to live."

There was one town ranked higher than Climax on the list.

Climax is just behind Toad Suck, Arkansas, and ahead of Boring, Oregon and Boring, Maryland.

Rounding out the top ten are:

4. Hooker, Oklahoma

5. Assawoman, Maryland

6. Belchertown, Massachusetts

7. Roachtown, Illinois

8. Loveladies, New Jersey

9. Squabbletown, California

10. Monkeys Eyebrow, Kentucky
