Eagle scout candidate takes on big project

Posted: Updated:

A south Georgia Boy Scout is undertaking a big project to clean up a Lee County creek.

Edward Newcomb is working to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

As part of that process, he's managing a project to remove more than thirty 55 gallon barrel drums from the banks of the Kinchafoonee Creek.

County public works, code enforcement and the EPD are volunteering to help with the project to beautify the banks.

"Me and my dad go to the Blue Hole every weekend and when we ride by we always notice the 55 gallon drums of concrete. I think the county would respect it. All the people along the creek would respect it because when they go by it they think it's ugly," said Newcomb.

The streambank restoration project is slated to take place the weekend of October 13th.

Newcomb must submit his report to the scouts for review in hopes of earning Eagle rank.
