BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) -
A south Georgia police department is offering a reward to help solve a rash of break-ins.
Burglars broke into five businesses and one house Monday night in Bainbridge.
The businesses were American Pie Pizza, Super Lube, Dina's Hair Salon, Parker Paint, and All About Nails.
The residence was at 110 Russ Street.
American Pie Pizza owner Art Priest says break ins are nothing new for his business. "We've been broken into probably four or five times, but this is the first time in the last couple of years. It's usually the same thing. They'll bust out, well twice they've busted out the front door and once they've busted out the drive-thru."
Four other Bainbridge businesses were hit by burglars the same night.
"At the present time we are reviewing security cameras so we really don't know what's going on, what was taken. But I need to do inventory to make sure everything was ok," said American Lube Assistant Manager Rodderick Whitfield.
Investigators with Bainbridge Public Safety say they think all of the incidents are related.
Priest says after years of dealing with break-ins his pizza shop was prepared. "Nothing was stolen except just the glass was broke out. Of course we don't leave money in here at all except a little bit of change which isn't worth stealing."
But the owner of Dina's Hair Salon says her shop was not so lucky.
She says the thieves got away with thousands of dollars worth of merchandise and an air conditioner.
Louis Coleman, Jr. lives right next to Dina's salon. "I'm not afraid, but I have to carry a gun in order to protect myself. I stayed up last night until 3 o'clock because I thought they were going to come back."
Whitfield says thieves never consider the financial burden on the victim. "Replacing the glass, that's $300 that should have been avoided."
Priest says while he's not sure if the same is true this time around, the last time this many businesses were broken into in one night, a gang initiation was to blame.
Bainbridge Public Safety is offering a $500 reward.
