Valdosta High loaded on offense

Valdosta High is looking for the offense to be ready to carry the team early this season.

Valdosta High head coach Rance Gillespie says the defense lost many of its starters from last season.

While the Cats expect their new players on defense to be able to step up and play this season, the offense does have plenty of experience.

Especially in the skills position with quarterback Shelby Wilkes ready to lead the offense.

He is joined by junior backs Nelson Herring and Malcolm Joseph.

The receiving corps is also strong wit Sherrod Inman, Yardley Payne and tight end Taijuan Smith.

The Wildcats offense will face a test against some very good defenses this season.

Rance Gillespie said. "You can have a really, really good football team and sit there trying to battle to be the 4th team in. We have just got to be fortunate enough to stay healthy. We have got to have mental discipline and mental ability to play our best each and every Friday night. You have got to play mistake free football in this region."

Valdosta High opens the season playing North Augusta in the North Gwinnett season opening kickoff classic September 1st.
