The smell of football is officially in the air at Albany State, all the players and coaches reporting for their first practice of the fall. The guys were trying to just get loose and knock those summer cobs off. The coaches will be more focused on conditioning for the first couple of days to see exactly who stayed in shape over the summer.
There will be several starting position battles including for quarterback and linebacker. But as for the initial stages of practice, the coaches had their eyes peeled for a particular group of guys and how they performed in their first day as a Ram.
Head coach Mike White said "Just trying to see the new guys. It's good to be back on the field but you're just trying to see, make sure your guys are in shape and just try to see do the guys move like you think the new guy does."
Wide receiver Orion Ponder said "We've been talking about this the whole summer. We have freshmen coming in. We have people coming back. I think we're going to have a good season this year."
