    Some princesses and super heroes made a stop in Albany Wednesday to visit young patients at Phoebe Putney Memorial hospital.

Today is the first day of school for students who live in Albany. Kids had to deal with light rain and muggy weather as they waited at their bus stops.

 Traffic was heavy as parents dropped off their kids at school. Buses were back on the road to officially signify the end of summer.

The first day of school can not only be hard for kids-- but parents as well.

"I think it just kind of broke my heart, watching her reach another milestone. I think the first one was the day she was born. She's my only granddaughter, and I'm so proud of her," said grandmother Andrea Carter.

Mrs. Carter dropped her granddaughter off at Sherwood Elementary.

APD wants to remind drivers to honor the speed limit in school zones. They are out in force, and issuing tickets.
