MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

When Colquitt County schools welcome students back this week, they'll have a new person leading the school system.

Dr. Samuel DePaul is the new Colquitt County superintendent. He has already been on the job for a few weeks.

He has been a superintendent for 26 years in North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

DePaul says he sees a lot of progress being made in Colquitt County and is excited to help lead a transition that will include a new high school building.

"This is going to be a huge event for the community, obviously," Dr. DePaul said. "It is upwards of $50 million project. The school district and all of the community is excited about it. It will be getting cranked up here shortly after the first of the year."

The first day of class for Colquitt County students is this Wednesday, August 8th.
