Lee County Commissioner Rick Muggridge will face opposition in November.

Tim Nelson, vice chairman of the Libertarian Party of Southwest Georgia, will run as an Independent for the District 4 race.

The 35-year-old Nelson is a state probation officer who moved here from Illinois nine years ago.

Nelson paid the qualifying fee Friday morning to run in the race. "I am a fan of small government, lower taxes and just holding to the free market principles of the Libertarian party."

Nelson had to gather 168 signatures on a petition and submit them to election officials.

Once the signatures are certified, Nelson will be approved to be on the November ballot with Muggridge.

Muggridge won the Republican primary with 71% of the vote Tuesday.
