Water Gas and Light Commissioners told the Long Term Financial Planning Committee they needed $700,000 to comply with EPA guidelines. They say the money will be used to clean up a gas manufacturing site on West Society Avenue.

But commissioners did not grant their request.

City Commissioner Tommie Postell and Bob Langstaff raised concerns about where the money should come from.

As a whole, they decided to put this issue on the agenda for the city commission meeting next Tuesday.

"From the Long Term Planning Committee, I feel like they're asking for this because we granted something to them," said City Commissioner Tommie Postell. "But they didn't give us enough information or any facts."

City Commissioners will make a decision on Tuesday. The Long Term Financial Planning Committee will meet at noon that day to finalize how they'll handle situations like this going forward.
