LEARY, GA (WALB) -

A small town in South Georgia is getting some big time attention.

McLendon Acre Farms in Leary was chosen to be featured on RFD TV's new upcoming show, 'Small Town Big Deal.'

The shows host and producers were at the farm Thursday filming for the show.

Small towns take the spotlight in a new TV show called Small Town Big Deal.

It's all about the stories of rural American, and Leary will be a part of it.

"Small Town Big Deal is about celebrating life in rural America, it is all the great things why you want to live outside the beltline of Atlanta, and Chicago, and L.A. and I want to live there, and why people inside those beltlines dream of living here," said Rodney Miller, Small Town Big Deal, Host /CEO.

And since a big part of rural America is agriculture, the show is featuring McLendon Acre Farms in Leary.

"He has just a high tech cutting edge farm that is really concerning water and conserving our nutrients," said Miller.

The variable rate irrigation system conserves 17% of water usage but can save up to 30% when coupled with soil moisture probs.

"Those probs in the field, they are essentially reading in the soil exactly, what the crop needs, so you know exactly when to apply the irrigation, according to how much rainfall you have had per field," said Miller.

David Reckford helped the McLendon farm adopt these new advanced technologies.

"Our farmers are using some of the most advanced technologies on the market, across a scale, that really is unheard of nationwide, so we are leading the charge in water conservation, within an agricultural context, and this show will help bring that to light," said David Reckford, Flint River Basin Partnership Director.

Ultimately giving Americans insight into farming operations, who might otherwise think their produce comes from a grocery store.

Small Town Big Deal will air on Thursday, September 6th at 9:30 PM on the RFD network.
