VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -
The faculty hire rate at Valdosta State is down this school year compared to last. Today VSU welcomed their new faculty members, and of the 40 new instructors hired, the Communications Department will see the biggest faculty gain.
The Vice President of Academic Affairs says because of the student's growing interest in entering into the world of media, they've expanded their technology and faculty to meet those interests.
"We have the capability with our labs and the equipment, that we've been growing over the last few years to really be able to help them focus on that now," said Karla Hull, VP of Academic Affairs.
Hull says the faculty hire is down by 20 people this year and says all education institutions in Georgia are trying to keep costs down in this economy.
