TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

Former Tift County Coroner Steve Wood, former state trooper Gene Scarbrough, and former Sheriff's deputy Dennis Reese have all been pitted in a strong race to replace retiring sheriff Gary Vowell.

Wood and his supporters gathered at the Tift County Elections office to see results roll in. Wood got the most votes in the primary. But, he will now go on to a runoff against Scarbrough in August.

"It's up to the voters," Wood said. "It looks like it is going to be a runoff. We are not going to falter. We are going to keep pushing forward and do what is best for Tift County."

Wood says he is ready for the runoff. Both he and Scarbrough have said they will do what it takes to help Tift County move forward.
