After finishing region runner-up for the last two years, the Americus-Sumter Panthers are looking to avoid the brides maid label this season.
The Panthers believe they are ready to contend for the region 1-AAAA title with 13 starters returning.
Most of them are on offense and include quarterback Bryce Benton and his top receiver Jonathan Thomas.
The backfield has two young but talented backs in sophomores Wesley Fields and Bryan Stone.
The defensive line is also expected to be strong with South Alabama commit Willie Williams and Leroy Henderson.
Another asset is the players are finally comfortable in year three with their head coach.
Michael Pollock said. "From a mental aspect of the game we are ready to play. As far as knowing what to do offensively, defensively, our checks and our adjustments. Things like that. We have got in right now. We are ready. Physically we still have a ways to go. We have got to get into pads."
Americus-Sumter opens the season at home against Kendrick.
