Corey Joyner was a key player during the Trojans run of success in the 1990's.
Trojan fans are hoping Corey Joyner can restore Dougherty to their winning ways after he was promoted to head coach in May.
The program has been on hard times since the Trojans lost in the state final seven years ago.
The new coach is counting on a defense that has six starters back to be the foundation in his first season.
Dougherty will be led by lineman Steven Mentos and defensive back Demarcus Barney.
The offense will be very young and inexperienced but the new coach understands his task is going to take some time to accomplish.
Corey Joyner said. "Well it looks like we are going to do what it takes to win. Right now going 1-9 and 2-8 in the last two seasons. You just have to do what it takes to win right now."
Dougherty opens the season hosting Lee County in the Trojan Bowl August 31st.
