An attempted armed robbery at an Albany grocery store didn't go as planned for the crooks. It was a clerk at Rubo's grocery on Clarke Avenue that sent the gunmen running. It wasn't by an act of force, but rather an act of voice.
"Well it doesn't surprise me because it's getting so rough around here," said Rubo's customer Sherman Cato.
That Cato's reaction this afternoon after he learned the store was closed as APD investigators look for clues in an attempted armed robbery.
"I shop here pretty regular when I need something," said Cato.
But this evening, cops are now telling us the would be crooks didn't escape with any cash.
It must have been the robbers first time seeing they were just as nervous and spooked as the people they were trying to rob.
"One of the employees panicked and screamed, which caused them to panic and they fled the store on foot south towards Mulberry Avenue," said Phyllis Banks with APD.
As more of the store's customers gathered to see what was going on, they expressed their displeasure of the situation. Saying the would be robbers should get a job instead of taking money from hard working citizens.
"They need to do like I do (earn money) and they'll feel better about it. They need to stop taking folks' stuff. They don't need to do that. Stop taking stuff that doesn't belong to them. Not just here, but everywhere else," said Elbert Moore.
APD is now asking for your help in finding the pair.
"They were two black males. Both were armed with handguns. Approximately 20 years of age and wearing all black, possibly hoodies," said Banks.
They hope tips come in soon to get these two off the streets.
