ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

There will be a coon hunt in Albany in January after all.

One week after learning that the United Kennel Club Winter Classic Coon Hunt moved  to Batesville,

Mississippi, the Exchange Club announced that the American Kennel Club will join them in hosting a coon hunt.

The Southern Heritage Hunt and Show will be held the same weekend, January 25th and 26th.

AKC officials say they know many hunters wanted the Albany event to continue.

"It was a lot of phone calls from people out of the state.  They love Albany Georgia.  They love the weather. They love the hunting conditions and the people.  And the Exchange Club does a great job," said Jim Phillips, AKC Executive Field Representative.

Exchange Club officials say they know the first South Heritage Hunt will not be as big as the Winter Classic.

That had five thousand competitors and a one point $3M dollar economic impact last year, but the Exchange Club says they are glad to continue to provide a quality hunt, with the money raised going to local charities.
