TERRELL COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Two bicyclists remain hospitalized after a tragic crash on Highway 82 near Dawson that killed one of their companions.

Just before daybreak a tractor trailer headed east hit the three bicyclists who were headed to Florida.

The wreck happened about two miles east of Dawson. All three of the bicyclists were knocked into a ditch.

One of them died, the other two are hospitalized.  The truck driver told troopers he didn't see the bicyclists.

"They need to yield to the bicyclists and give them three feet at least. Keep in mind that bicyclists are moving a lot slower than a vehicle. As driver approach they should slow down and pass with care." said Michael Massey, State Trooper.

The bicyclist who was killed is 64-year-0ld Peter Connell of Port Charlotte, Florida.

His riding companions, 62-year-old Thomas Clark of Munith, Michigan and 60-year-old Joseph Muscato of Glass Lake, Michigan were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Troopers haven't yet decided whether to file charges against the truck driver, Clifford Wynn of Camilla, who was driving for American Protein of Cuthbert.
