New kitchen coming to Albany Second Harvest

Posted: Updated:

Construction is underway on a project at Second Harvest of South Georgia in Albany that will help feed more children.

A new kitchen and facility area are being built at the Cordele Avenue location to improve the Kids Cafe Program.

The after school program tutors and feeds children while teaching them the importance of proper nutrition.

The program is expanding to serve students in Sumter and Mitchell Counties.

"We want the folks to see that the donations and money that's been given to Second Harvest are being used to come back into this community and Albany. We want to take care of those at risk children that so many times I get asked about," said Second Harvest of South Georgia Albany Branch Director Jim Case.

Construction is set to be completed in September.
