COLQUITT COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

A man is in the Colquitt County jail accused of attacking and robbing an 87-year-old woman in her home.

Investigators were looking for Willie Nard Grant to charge him with rape in Mitchell County.

The elderly Colquitt County victim is okay but the crime has neighbors on edge.

Wayne Suber says what happened to his neighbor is nothing short of despicable.

"It bothered me what happened to her and what could have happened to my wife," he said.

Investigators say last Friday morning, Grant drove a stolen car down the 3000 block of Highway 111 and stopped by different homes asking for money.

They say he knocked on the door of Eva Clayton's home and asked for a glass of water.

"At the time she handed him the cup, he grabbed her arm and forced her into a room and asked her where her money was at," said Colquitt County Sheriff's Investigator Shannon Hart.

That's when investigators say he threw the 87-year-old to floor and got away with just $30.

Grant then went to another home in hopes of getting in touch a mechanic to fix the stolen Ford Taurus when he made an odd request.

"After no mechanics would respond because he didn't have any money, he told the neighbors to call 911 and have the police come over there because he had stolen the car," Hart said.

But deputies would soon learn that not only had Grant stolen the car that morning in Pelham and attacked a woman, he was also wanted on other serious charges.

"We found out he was wanted in Mitchell County for rape charges they had over there," Hart said.

Suber says while it has him on guard, Grant better be glad he didn't try to break in his home.

"I would've have shot him," he said. "One way or the other, he wouldn't have left the house."

Grant is in the Colquitt County Jail facing a host of charges including aggravated assault on a person 65-years and older, robbery by force and burglary. This, to go along with a rape charge he'll face a county over.

Ms. Clayton did fight back against Grant and she suffered some minor injuries.

Mitchell County investigators had been looking for Grant since they took out warrants three months ago charging him with raping a Pelham woman.
