Storms knock out power for hundreds in Southwest Georgia

Posted: Updated:

Overnight storms caused problems for utility crews in South Georgia. Water Gas and Light crews started working at 9:30pm Sunday to restore 300 customers.

WG&L crews restored power to those homes without it at 5am. They believe a lightning bolt caused the outage.

WG&L Utility crews worked for hours to restore power to homes on East Society, Residence and Don Cutler. While trying to restore power they found down power lines and tree limbs.

Crews removed the limbs and reconnected the lines.  Cleanup crews also had their hands full in Moultrie last night.

They worked to remove a tree and other limbs off 1st Ave SW and Tallokas road. City crews did not report seeing any trees on cars or houses.

Mitchell EMC also had about a couple hundred homes without power, but they have been restored. Mitchell EMC reports Baker County had the most outages and a down tree was the cause.

However, all power in Southwest Georgia has been restored.
